RACING DATE DISPUTE

With regard to the statements being made of a possible conflict between Parliament and the Racing Conference, In connection with the Waikato Hunt Club and the Labour Day date, Sir George Ci'ilford stated this morning that it had been decided, for the general good of the turf, that the AV aikato Racing Club should race on Labour Day. This bad been approved first by the Auckland Country Clubs’ Association, and then by tbe Auckland District Committee, and then the Conference. He had been credibly informed that if a plebescite were taken amongst all the racing people concerned. it would go in favour of the Labour Day date being given to the Racing ( hib and not to the Hunt Club. Political influence should not be allowed in the distribution of racing privileges. The sport of racing, and aIV other sports of benefit to the community, should he so managed as to he above political or temporary interest.
RACING LICENSES. WELLINGTON, July 16. The Licensing Committee' of the Racing Conference has decided that Gray whose penalty was reduced on Wednesday to suspension can work in a stable, do riding work, and take a horse on to a course on race days, but must not enter the jockeys room or birdcage at meetings. Five jockeys who rode in a hurdle race at Reefton and were suspended for twelve months applied to the Licensing Committee for renewal of their licenses, but were all refused.
