ATTACK ON AYORIvERS. BRISBANE, July 10.
Considerabi’e excitement prevails at Innisfnil as a resuit of an attack by strikers on three Brittons who previously were warned not to take work at South Johnstone. AVlien the men proceeded to the cane growers’ office the strikers followed and violently assaulted them. One escaped hut the other two were unmercifully beaten, being punched and kicked. One was sent to hospital where lie lies in a critical condition. The other was rescued by tbe police. Two strikers were arrested. Big crowds gathered in the streets for some time afterward and there was some talk of a demonstration against the strikers. A number of strikers also gathered in the vicinity ol the police station in which the two arrested men were locked up, but nothing eventuated. Reports from South Johnstone state further acts of violence on the part ol strikers occurred. These assaults are chiefly directed against foreigners suspected of seeking employment. A conference between the parties in the dispute which has now lasted seven weeks lis being held this aftcinoon.
