A number of large employers have retained leading counsel to tost tlie validity of Mr Lang’s Child Endowment Act in the High Court by seeking a. prohibition against tlie State Government collecting the necessary tax for the payment of the endowment. Governor Bridges, in bis speech from the Throne, said that among the Bills lo be introduced u ill be those providing for Workmen's Compensation, and Advances for Homes and Mining. The Government is also preparing for the .submission to the Coiniuonmealth of a request for a grant in compensation for disabilities arising out of the Federation.

Mr Bavin (Nationalist Leader) referring to Mr Lang's legislative methods declared there was an extraordinary similarity between (hem and Mussolini's methods in Italy. An official report shows there are now 112,258 telephone subscribers in the Commonwealth. For the year ended 30th June last 60,958 now telephones were installed.
