WEST COAST RUCBY UNION.
The Executive meeting was held at Grcymouth last evening.
The X.%. Union wrote confirming the admission of F.. T>. Williams to the code. A letter was read from South Cantebury R.C. acknowledging an invitation to tour the Coast next year, and advising that it would have consideration when next season’s fixtures note being made. A eircui'ar received front the N.Z. Union slated it disapproved of Unions putting their rep. teams into camp lor training for inter-Provineial matches, and pointed out that this was contrary to the amateur spirit of the code. An application from T. P. Nelson for re-ndmission to the code was granted subject- lo his answering Question 10 saljsf’actorily. The Chairman (Mr Adams) as manager of the West Coast, team, reported on the Westport tour remarking on the team’s good behaviour and the cordial reception tendered by the Butler R.l. Westport accounts amounting to £2B Bis fid were passed for payment. Tenders wero received for conveyance of the West Coast rep.team to Nelson, and it was resolved to accept that of Toohey’s Motors Hokitika. It was resolved that the team to play Nelson for the Seddon Shield he selected on Saturday evening at 7.J0 p.m. the Selectors to include four emergencies. Mr Adams was appointed manager of the team, and it was decided to depart from Hokitika at (1 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, Grcymouth members join the ears at the Post Office at 7 a.m. It. was resolved that the Ashburton match at Hokitika on August 17 he against a purely Westland Sub-Union team, whii'st the match at Grcymout on August 14 he against a West Coast representative side. Fixtures for Saturday were drawn up its Inflows Seniors:—Stars v. Magpies at Gladstone at 3 p.m. (Mr J. D. Cullen referee) ; Excelsiors v. United at Hokitika (Mr Williamson).
TRAINING OF TEAMS. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) CHRISTHCURCH, July 13. The Canterbury Rugby Union yesterday discussed a letter Irom "the New {Zealand Union objecting to representative teams going into cant]) for training and decided to receive the letter and use its own discretion in the matter. Mr S. F. Wilson said he strongly disapproved of the practice of putting teams into cam]), ft did not mean that they could not assemble their country players who had to he brought into town a day or two before a match. Mr S. J. Dunne said Ranfurly Shield games were more like gladiatorial contests than football matches, according to reports. “If it is going on like this, the Shield should he tipped over the wharf and the sooner the better,” added Mr Dunne. ‘‘At tilio same time I think the reports have been a hit exaggerated and that, the game between Hawke’s Bay and Wairarapa was not what it was reported to have been.” Ml- J. F. Mcl’ltafl (Chairman) said that Canterbury had played three hard games against Hawke's Bay. and he could say that not one ol them was any different irom any other representative match. They had been good, keen games.
