The new Paramount picture, topping the Princess Tlieiitre bill next Wednesday “ The Grand Duchess and the Waiter,” is a picturizatioii of Alfred Si'.voir’s celebrated play of the same name, which recently scored a tremendous success both in Europe and in America. The sparkling story, which is regarded as one of the best ever written by the famous French playwright, was first produced in Paris and later appeared in England. With Elsie Ferguson and Basil Bathbone in the i'cading roles, it was put upon the American stage, and played at the Lyceum Theatre in New York. The heroine of the picture is Florence Vidor, a haughty .Russian Grand Duchess, who is forced to flee to Paris following the rise of revolutionists in her home country. Adolphe Menjon portrays the part of an adventurous young cavalier of the Boulevards, who, for the love of .Miss Vidor, masquerades as a floor-waiter in her hotel suite that lie may he near her always. The screen adaptation was made by Pierre Codings, and the director is Malcolm St. Clair, who, it will be remembered, produced two previous comedy hits, “ Are Parents People?” and “The Trouble With Wives.” The supports on Wednesday are a topical', scenic and comedy. On Friday night Laura La. Plante in 11 Her Big Night ” will lie shown.
