ROWER FOR AUCKLAND. I ORDERS FOR SI"PPL EM ENT AR Y PLANT. WELLINGTON. July 0. An order was cabled t i England today iiy the .Minister for Public Works (tho Hon. Air Williams) for additional electric power generating plant, which it is hoped will overcome the threatened power shortage in the Auckland province occasioned by the delay in the completion uf the Arapuni .scheme. The plant, is to lie creeled at the Government si:h-s| at ion ai Penrose and will supplement the electric p over supply from the Hern Horn system and the fuel-driven plants connected with it throughout the province. The order sent to-day is for three 1253 kilowatt Diesel engines which were miliiul'acttire I by the Germans in 1913. and which were taken over by the Rritish Governiurnl in part payment- of reparations. I hey hove Lean in store ever .since and are ready for immediate shipment. Generalurs (o suit these eucims are to he supplied by the English Electric Company, and ore to he delivered in about five months’ time.
The extra power wlid-lt will thus he made available is cxperlrd b.v the Public Works Department, to he sufficient to ensure an ample supply throughout Auckland during the winter of 192.8, and even that of 1929 should the completion of the Araptnii .scheme he so long delayed.

Asher, who appeared before All' J. 11. Salmon. 5.. M.. in the .Magistrate's Court to-day. is a!,so charged with having set fire to the building. The evidence showed that at ihe time the alleged offences took place both Air and All's McCarthy were absent from their home. On their return they found that a lire had occurred. ami that furniture had been damaged. and the money and tram tickets were missing. Detective Kane said Asher ImA stated that a- man whom he did net knowhad approached him in an hotel -and had oll'ered to sell Him a couple of concession cards for 2>. The man nieii.tinned that they were "crook.” which A slier understood to mean they had been sloleii. Asher oll'ered 1- for them ami (his was accepted. Asher could not account for his movements on June 15th., hut denied any knowledge cl the offences. 'lhe accused pleaded not guilty, reserved his defence, and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Mail of £SOO and two sureties of £250 was renewed. Nesbitt, a storekeeper at Tekarakn. was disturbed last night and discovered an intruder in bis store from the street. On Monday night £3 in silver was taken from the till. Assistance was obtained and the burglar for a while was bold in the store, but eventually lie escaped eluding five or si people surrounding the store.
FT RE ENQUIRY. CHRISTCHURCH, June 8. An inquiry was held on a fire at a cycle shop in. Addington on June 18 th. the occasion when Superintendent. Warner and two of hi ; men were injured. Sergeant Murray, in charge of the Addington Rolire Station, gave evidence of taking charge of two petrel tins and an overcoat which smelt of pet ml.
Superintendent Warner said that owing t:> an error in the message received, the brigade went to Linwood Best Office, and not to Lincoln Road and a quarter of an hour was lost. When investigating the fire witness went up to all attic where there seemed to he an. accumulation of old motor tyres. A tin fell over and a huge flame immediaielv burst towards the roof. The order was given then lor the men to leave the building.
Deputy-Superintendent Blake gave evidence of finding a tin three parts full of petrol partly i overed with an old khaki emit, and the whole c.f the top of tlie tin had been cut away. The Manager of the State Eire Insurance gave evidence that the stock was insured lor £270 m Lehruary. Its value was then £328. At the time of the tiro the value of Mt.ck was £l2B EL ()d.

BOY THIEVES. AUCKLAND. July 3. Detectives arrested three boys, one
aged 15, and the two others a little younger, who appeared before Air ATeKean S.AL tit a special sitting of the Children's Court. Two of the bays admitted having wilfully sot lire to the Normal School on Sunday. All three admitted breaking and entering the count iug house of George Kennedy oil June 22nd. and stealing a [Rst aid outfit and 2s. All three pleaded guilty t ) setting lire to Keiinerl.v's storehouse.
Chief Detective Cummings said two of the lioy.s admitted setting fire to motor ear tyres at the rear of the Normal school at 3.15 p.m. on Sunday: also setting lire to six other places in Auckland, and having given twelve malicious false fire alarms. One of them recently broke into a garage and stole a revolver. Two of them wore working, one in a stable and the other on a butcher's cart. The father of one hoy was in a mental hospital. Another hoy’s father was ill and out of work. The third boy's father was a blacksmith. Accused wore remanded in custody of the Welfare Officer until the next sitting of the Children's Court.
