BYRD COMINC TO N.Z. BV Tr.u-XKAPH—I’ItESS ASSN., COPYIUCHT. "London, July 7. The “ Times’s ” Paris correspondent states: Commander Byrd’s Atlantic expedition will consist of fifty men, intituling several scientists, two aeroplanes, dogs and sledges. It is sailing from the United States in the autumn by way of New Zealand for Boss Sea. There the base will he established. One of the aeroplanes will he of a three-engined machine, and the otln-r a
olio-engined one. The smaller plane will he used for reconoitring purposes for the linger one. Both will he equipped with floats which will he exchangeable for skis when used on the ice.
Commander Byrd says that he willbe prepared to remain in tlic Antarctic for eighteen months. He believes that there must he a large area of the Southern Continent not covered by snow, and he hopes to reach the South Pole.
His party will include several of his earlier Arctic expedition.
COMING FLYING RUNS. NEAV YORK, July 7. Aside from ten announced flights front Europe to America, nearly as many other flights from America to Europe and other parts ol the world are now scheduled. Two from New jfork to Rome, one from New York to 1/ondon. one from New York to Europe (destination undecided). A prize. of JO.OOOdoI. is offered for a non-stop flight from Los Angeles to Tokyo. Italready has two entrants. A civilian round the globe, flight in 15 days is also contemplated before the end of the summer. LONDON, July 7.
The Bishop of Willochnt on Sunday next flies from Loudon to Manchester in order to keep a preaching agreement. He takes the morning service in Kensington, and the afternoon in Manchester .
