DUKE AND DUCHESS.

(Australian & N.Z. Cable Association

BABY PRINCESS HOLDS COURT. LONDON, June 27. While the sympathies of people throughout the Empire have been with the Duchess of York in her long separation from her baby, it was the overjoyed Duke who was the first to take Princess Betty in his arms and hug her. ‘■.Mother, how she’s grown!" was the Duke’s excited remark, as the Duchess entered the drawing room at Buckingham Palace and saw Princess Betty sitting on a rug on the floor, playing with toys. “ How sweet—lovely! ’’ exclaimed the Duchess as tho royal parents hurried across the room. The Duke picked up and kissed the baby, and handed her to the Duchess. It was a most touching re-union. Princess Betty took it all in good part. She seemed intensely amused at the arrival and the fuss. She cooed and laughed and held a court of her own. One thousand women were waiting in the rain outside the Palace, and they were thrilled to see the Duchess clasping the baby on the balcony. On their returning to their Piccadilly house, hundreds insistently called for a re-appearance of Princess Betty. A servant brought a rug and placed it on the raiding, the Duchess hold up Princess Betty regardless of the raindrops. “Wave your hand, baby! ”, she was heard to say, as she took the baby’s hand in hers and raised it. The Duchess then turned and handed the baby through a window. She and the Duke stood for a moment to acknowledge the cheering, before they vanished into their new home.
