The Farmers’ Union have forwarded a letter to the Alinistcr of Agriculture asking that potatoes imported into New Zealand from Australia he subjected to the same inspection as New Zealand potatoes sent to Australia. The letter states it seemed most unfair that Australia should exclude New Zealand pottaes and then export to the Dominion where potato growers are l'aejig adverse conditions, and it urged that' New Zealand growers lie protected as far as possible.
FOUND DEAD. MAI .MATE, June 27. An elderly mail, Patrick O'Alara, was found dead in his hut. It, is believed he has relatives in Christchurch.

The Southern Hawke's Bay branch of the Fanners' Union yesterday discussed daylight saving and decided hv nine votes to seven in favour of supporting the Bill to come bcloic Parliament. THEFT CHARGES. AUCKLAND. June 27. Harry Hurst O’Connor. 18. was committed for sentence to the Supreme Court by Afr .McKean, S.AI. on fourteen charges of theft of goods valued at £9B 9s 6d, money £34 10s 7d, his book showing ti credit of £4BO. All the thefts were committed at private hotels and hoarding houses. Accused admitted all charges. Much ot the stolen property has been recovered.
A SERIOUS CHARGE. TAIIIAPE. Juno 27. Herbert Mitchell Fisher, married, forty, arrested last night on a charge of presenting a revolver at C. 0. Gibbs. R. C. McDonald and Leo 11. Collin>:o.:i, appeared at Court this morning. Detective Walsh applied for a remand till to-morrow and asked that Fisher be kept in custody, as further charges are pending. FALSE PRETENCES. DUNEDIN, June 27. James Johnstone charged at the Police Court with failing to comply wtih the terms of probation and with obtaining money by falsely representing he would advertise a business in the railway a.ml tramway table, was sentenced to eighteen months reformative detention. Security for appeal was fixed.
FOUND DEAD. DUNEDIN, June 27. An unkonwn man, aged GO, was found dead in a water table at Midulemarch. A receipt was found in a pocket for W. Clark. A PAINFUL ACCIDENT. DUNEDIN. June 27. James Robertson, mine manager, of Alexandra Coal Co., was the victim of n painful accident as the result of an explosion. He was hadlv burnt about the face. It was first thought his eye would be destroyed, but no permanent effect is now likely.
