At the (Magistrate’s Court, Grevmnuth yesterday a large number- of motorists wore charged before the Magistrate with having failed to produce their licenses when called on fo do so at Kumara on April 18th. The authorities have had some very necessary improvements carried out to the Cemetery Hill road which had Ilccii allowed to drift into rather serious disrepair. The Borough and (Mental Hospital authorities combined forces. and under Head Attendant Dowling the road is now ship-shape, being well formed and metalled, and the side drains attended to. Some attention is still required to the protecting fence, otherwise the road may be considered to be in the best order it bad ever been. The Borough authorities are co-operating with the Mental Hospital authorities also in regard to an enlarged drainage scheme for the cemetery grounds.

Tlio dentil took place last nijzlit about IT o’clock of Mr Thomas Robinson. the well-known stationer of licvell Street, after an illness extending over several months. The deceased was a native of County Durham, England, and 75 years of age. He came to New Zealand some 50 years ago and for many years was a resident of Brunner, where lie worked as a minor and later carried on business as an aerated water manufacturer. Deceased came to Hokitika over 20 years ago and carried on business as a stationer in Hevell Street. He was a member of the Borough Council and School Committee for several years. Deceased leaves a widow and family of on<\ daughter (Mrs IT. Sweney, of Hokitika) and four sons (William, Alfred. Oliver, and Thomas) all well known residents. General sympathy will be extended to tbe bereaved. The funeral takes place to Stillwater Cemetery to-morrow.

The death took place at the Beefton Hospital on Saturday of one of the oldest residents of the district in the person of Jinnies Itoxborough, sen., at tbe ago of 88 years. Deceased arrived on the West Coast in 1860 and was employed parting between Hokitika and Ross. Ho arrived in the Inangah.ua district in 1880 and was for a time proprietor of the Crusliington Hotel and engaged in coal mining at Lankey’s Creek. He took over tbe Railway Hotel at Rcofton in 188 G until 1903, when he retired. Subsequently he was employed by the Public Works Department, but of late failing health compelled him to enter the Hospital. He was connected with the Reefton Jockey Club since his arrival in the district, and for years was Clerk of the Course and was also a foundation member of the Trotting Club. In both branches of this sport he took a keen interest right no to the last. At one time he rail a trotting horse with varying success. His only son, Mr Jas Roxlvorough, is employed at the Railwav Department. Hokitika.
