A MAYOR’S STATUS.
NAP I HR, June 20. The Mayor, Air J. Vigor Hrown, was to-day informed by the Borough Solicitor that a firm in which he was interested in having sold cement to the Council in the year prior to his election. and for which the payment was made after the election, lie had automatically forfeited his seat. The money concerned was repaid to the Council by the firm concerned and this fact led the solicitors to the opinion that Mr Brown was eligible for re-election. The amount involved was £37. GREYMOUTH SENTENCES. GREYMOUTH, June 20. George Huta Brewer, aged 21, v.as sentenced this morning by Magistrate Hewitt to six months for unlawfu' v converting two cars to his own use. It was stated that Brewer was serving a term at Wellington for theft, and escaped in May last, making his way to Grey mouth. William Mann 43. found in possession of a I Kittle of whisky stolen from Kettle’s store, was sentenced to fourteen days.
