MAN WITH THE IRON BOX.
BERLIN, April 27. Herbert Sandrowsld, who was suffering from typhoid lever, was admitted to a Berlin hospital some time ago. He had with him a small iron box which he never opened. His anxiety about the box was so great that the suspicions of the hospital authorities were aroused and they communicated with the police. Wren the man was convalescent the. police arrived to question him and to examine his box. The iron box was opened and within was found jewellery worth £40,000, including necklaces, bracelets, rings, and strings of diamonds, pearls, and emeralds. The man displayed great indignation at the interference of the police and told that them that he was a jeweller and that his real name was Reader. The Berlin police got into touch with their colleagues in other countries and discovered that they had got in their hands a notorious thief whose great coup was the theft of jewellery worth CHO,OOO from the home of an American at Palm Beach. Florida. He was horn at Riga and became a hatcher and then a burglar. He was arrested in Ilia United States and condemned to 7 years’ imprisonment, but managed to escape and get to Germany. A telegram has been received from the American authorities, who ask that Sandrnwski shall bo sent to tbe United States.
