The U.S.A. X avy Dopartincnt have announced that they arc completing an aeroplane capable of flying at a speed of ,*}oo miles an hour. This machine will contain what is considered to he the largest aeroplane engine ever built, consisting of 25’ cylinders, and developing 1250 horse-power.

An effort will he made to exceed the speed record held by the French of 278.*18 miles per hour. The engine will he adaptable for use in heavy bombing land seaplanes.

DIRISMBLE. WASHINGTON', June 17. The impetus to trans-oceanie flying furnished by the Lindbergh and Chamberlain flights is expected soon to lead to a new American movement for a trans-Atlantic dirigible line, in which a group of prominent bankers and industrialists are interested. The plans for the development of such a service are likely to bo hastened by rapid progress of foreign countries, particularly Britain and Germany, both of whom have laid the ground work for passenger and freight lines. The American group interested is the .same which negotiated with the Government in 1925 for a lease of the dirigible Los Angeles for commercial purposes, which plan was temporarily upset by tlhe Shenandoah crash. The group will determine whether it will proceed on its own initiative or await a navy experiment with a forthcoming six million cubic feet dirigible.
