CANTERBURY PROGRESS LEAGUE
WESTLAND CO MAH TTE I
The following remits are to be submitted to the conference of South Island Teagues to tie held in Christchurch on Tuesday, 21st June.
1. That the Canterbury-West Coast road via Healey be maintained for vehicle traffic as a necessary alternative in case of any railway breakdown or blockage. 2. That the attention of the Government be called to the eminent suitability of the West Coast as an aviation landing place for direct international air communication, affording as it does excellent landing places for hydroplanes at Lake Mahinapua on the immediate sea coast, and Sea view Hill, a wide expanse of level country, for ordinary aerial machines.
3. That the Kaast Pass Track connecting Otago and South Westland bo improved and suitable huts established at convenient stages.
4. That to facilitate the development of South Westland and in view of the railway terminating at Boss, ft is essential that the main South Bond to Bruce Bay he widened and improved generally for better transport facilities for the settlers residing in the far south.
5. That the time lias arrived when in the interests of adding to the revenue of the railways the Department should consider favourably tile encouragement of additional goods traffic on the Midland Line by cheaper back freights when transferring empty trucks from east to west.
Dr Tcidielmann (President) and Mr J. AV. Morris ('Hon. Secretary) arc representing the AVestland branch at the conference and left by the express for Christchurch this morning.
