NEW POWER SYSTEM. NEW YORK, June 11. Mr Hoover is supervising the formation of a super-power plan, by which all power units throughout the country will be connected by a vast trunk system. It is proposed that the connected units would consist ol main secondary lines, controlled from central points, by which in ease of necessity all power resources in the United Statet could he diverted immediately. The system is planned with reference to water powers, coal fields, existing high voltage transmission lines, and centres of the principal power eonsumption of the Transcontinental Hml-

lt is pointed out under this system, the power now wasted, would be utilised. involving the saving of millions annually. The sponsors are attempting to overcome some State legislation where the plan can not now he accepted.

During intervals while he was killing his four children with a wooden mallet, a Mexican, named Pedro' Gomez. wrote n letter confessing. Then, standing at the window of his bedroom at a. hotel, he shot himself, his lxidv crashing to the street fire storeys below.

Gomez began:—“l am the author of this tragedy. T have done it to fulfil a promise made to my wile, who died three years ago. and who came from her native land in order not to cause pain to her family.”

Then, after a pause, the letter continued:—“lt is horrible. I have just seen inv son suffer. Now I must go hack.”

Gomez must then have gone and killed his three daughters, whose ages were 15. 13 and 8 years, after .which he finished the Liter and then tommitt oil suicide.

Baudot was due to surrender. and to undergo imprisonment for libelling the driver of the taxicab in which his son was found shot. He refused to go and said—“lf the police want me. they must fetch me! Hundreds of Royalists were sworn, in to prevent his arrest. They surrounded the six-storev building, and began constructing barbed wire and sandbag defences, while others, their pockets bulging with revolvers, carried inxstorjous boxes, supposed to contain machine guns, into the premises. “I am fighting for the honour of my son,” said M. Daudet, addressing the crowd. “There are thousands of resolute. men at my hack, prepared to face death.”

There was a siege still in progress late to-night, but there were no besiegers, the police not attempting to take the prisoner. PARIS, June 12. Daudet is still defying arrest. He has issued a bulletin this morning that he "passed a good night and is now taking cafe an lait.”

Ilis partisans caused a riot last evening. The Royalists’ ironical cheering of their opponents led to a free fight with sticks and bludgeons. Then police reinforcements arrived in lorries, and dispersed the rioters, 20 of whom were arrested.
