LATE LOCALS.
The Public Service ball, organised by the combined services in Hokitika, held in tlie Soldiers Hall on June Bth., was an unqualified success from all points of view. Over one hundred couples tripped the light fantastic to the melodious strains of Ross’s Orchestra, which, like the magic Pipes of Pan, could no doubt make even tlie trees and stones dance. The slipper arrangements were in the hands of Miss M. E. Moore, and a hand of very willing helpers whose sole aim was to satisfy to tire fullest extent the requirements of the inner man, and in this they excelled. During the evening. Mr T. Cagney, Chairman of the West Coast Section, apologised for the unavoidable absence of Mr T. E. A. Seddon, M.P.. who had been unable to avail himself of the invitation to attend, and who wished the function every success. Mr Cagney, in a few well-chosen words, also thanked those present for their patronage and expressed the appreciation of the section for their whole-hearted support. Danc-
ing was indulged in until the early hours of the morning, and the Ball was acknowledged by those present to he the most successful held m Hokitika for many years.
