[Australian & N.Z. Cablo Association.] ARBITRATION AWARD. SYDNEY, June 7. The Federal Arbitration Court commenced hearing the case in which the claim of the Australian Workers' Union and the counter-claim of the I’astoralists’ and Graziers’ organisation for a new award in the pastoral industry arc made. A unique feature of the. case is that the pastoralists and graziers applied for a new award before the Union’s claims were made to the (* o „ r t, thus giving the employers the right to open the case, and throwing tile nutis of justifying the Unions claims on the Australian Workers’ Union. The latter organisation represents over forty thousand members, while 8377 graziers and pastoralists are concerned.
NEWCASTLE STRIKE OVER. SYDNEY. June 7. The coal trimmers at Newcastle resumed work to-day. It will be several days before the idle sliips will he able to secure sufficient coal to leave port.
Six of the largest collieries in the Cessnoek district have also commenced working, and it is expected that the others will resume to-morrow.
DESTRUCTIVE FIRE. MELBOURNE, June 7. A lire destroyed seven resident ie shops, comprising practically the whole of the main street, of Nagahie, 78 miles from Melbourne, causing extensive damage.
TASMAN SEA FLIGHT PROPOSAL MELBOURNE, June 8.
Referring to the proposal lor a flight from Australia to New Zealand, ('olone 1 White (President of the Victorian section of the Aero Club) said money was the difficulty. There were plenty of machines at Point Cook, capable of the flight and hundreds ol pilots only too eager to undertake the attempt. He added that an expeliineutal flight of this nature would cost a few hundreds sterling, hut the money was not forthcoming. The Aero Club would stand behind such a flight and hoped in the near lutnrc sueli a (light would he made. An American Whirlwind engine would he capable of the flight to New Zealand and back without landing, lie concluded that in forging the links between the Dominions, Australia should take ptidcof place.
