Total for 6 wickets 214 The match was drawn. Bowling: McCanlis 2 for 55, Holmes I for 29, Grecnstock 2 for 87. Serrurier,! for 27, Dcsilva 0 for 13. Crawley did not last long on resuming to-day, his 72 was the result of 160 minutes batting and included eleven fours. The light became poor and the batsmen found Merritt difficult, to time, but they played him with care and he could not get a wicket. Newman contributed a lively innings of 33, of which 24 came from boundary strokes, and with Serrurier, had taken the score at lunch time to 5 for 172. Page, was then put on and finished four wickets for only ton runs. The total of 229, which was much loss than expected, left New Zealand 304 to get. They began unluckily, Mills being howled when the score was 16. hut Dempster and Lowry made a fine sporting effort to win, the. former was missed at. slip when 10 and 50 came up under forty minutes. Lowry set a fast pace, hut when Dempster was caught at mid-off by McCanlis off a slow howler in attempting to drive more care was obviously necessary. Dacre- also lost his wicket trying to force the game, hut Page helped his captain to carrv on successfully. Both men watched the bowling cautiously and the rate of scoring dropped to thirty in an hour. Page at. nine was let off from a hard return to Greenstock and at, the tea. adjournment they had taken the total to 3 for 108. In their partnership they added 75 in an hour and a half. Lowrv was eventually out for 69. which, despite the rapid start, took him two hours and a half., Page and McGirr quickly followed him and this success put New Zealand in danger, after their sporting opening. Allcott and Blunt, however, came to the rescue arid successfully held the fort for the last forty minutes the match thus ending in a draw.
