The Returned Soldiers’ Euchre Tournament will be continued in the Soldiers Hall next Friday, June Stli, at 8 o’clock sharp, when the following valuable prizes will be for competition: First prize, 32-piece dinner set; second. 10-12 coloured Alhambra quilt; third, half dozen w. and g. cups and saucers, half dozen bread and buttei plates ; fourth, glass salad bow]. There was a large number of Cadets in attendance at the Drill Hall uistevening when Colonel Gardiner, D. 5.0., inspected the local company. An opportunity was taken on this occasion by the Colonel to make the -presentation of the God ley Cup, Champion Belt, two medals and a silver spoon to Corporal Col Iyer. The Colonel spoke at length on the interest Cadets should take in drill and shooting, and in making the presentations to Corporal Collyer, complimented him on his success and hoped he would win the Territorial Champion licit next year.
A southern business man, who visited Willowbridgc recently, was shown a 20-acre crop of potatoes. Last year the yield was only four tons to the acre. Some potato diggers in that district expressed the opinion that a block or 70 acres on which they were working would yield under four tons an acre (says the Omani “Mail”). It has been ascertained that these conditions are not peculiar to Willowbridgc this season. In Kakamti and other parts the crops have also been light. One Hainan! man. who handles a large quantity of potatoes, says that it " ill snprise him if North Otago exports over 200 tons of table potatoes this season. The price of the tubers, ho considers, must soon show a big advantage.
