HOKITIKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
MONDAY, JUNE 6th. The Committee met at 7 p.m. Present : Rev. J. \Y. Hayward (chairman), Messrs AY. E. Richards, R. J. Pedder. AY. H. Shannon, 11. R. Swency, F. Orr, J. C-oulxon, AY. Clarke and J. Conning, (lion. see). The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. 1 NAVA 11D COR R ESPON DENC'E. From Education Board, Christchurch notifying Aliss Goad as temporary teacher till the end of the year.—Received. It was also resolved to make application to the Board for an extra assistant for the infant room, where there are 72 pupils under one teacher. From Hokitika Borough Council granting permission to remove 20 yards of sand.—Received. From Education Board, Christchurch. granting subsidy on proposed improvement works.—Received. After discussion it was resolved to spend £4O on sand for improving tlie right band plot in front of the school. From Dental Nurse notifying 129 extractions, 72 fillings and 107 other attentions.—Received.
Messrs Conning, Sweuey and Orr were appointed a ground improvement committee.
It was resolved in connection wit! the Dental clinic to write to the Department in regard to proposed restriction to the regulations in force. The Visiting Committee (Chairman and Mr Orr) reported on a number of small matters requiring attention.—Received; to be attended to. The Rector (Mr E. Partridge) reported tlio roll number for May was, primary 302, secondary 91. average attendance being primary 281 to 289, and secondary 89. The term holidays commenced on May 13th. and ended on the 31st.; Miss Bell had left and her place had been filled by Miss Goad. Eleven teams took part in the 7-aside tournament on June 3rd. Two teams had won and one other was the runner up. On the same day 72 girls had taken part in a- basket-ball tournament; drawing attention to damage done by wandering horses to the grounds; with Mr Conning he had nited on Hon H. L. Michel (Chairman of High School Board) in reference to assistance to the Committee, and lie had stated if the Board had the power and the Board had funds available, they should he glad to give consideration to the request of the Comm i ttoe.—Received. It was resolved that the caretaker be instructed to lock the gates every evening to prevent cattle trespassing; some necessary repairs mentioned were authorised.
Accounts as submitted were .passed for payment. Messrs Clarke and Sweuey wore appointed visitors for the month. The Committee rose at 7.50 p.m.
