Oxford hatted first and made 337 runs, while at the end of the day the visitors had on 84 runs for the loss of one wicket. Crawley scored quickly until lie was run out for 39. but Holmes, who scored 165, obtained a real mastery over the New Zealand attack. His first 50 runs came in the same number of minutes, alter which lie continued batting with
