PUREBRED JERSEYS
Progressive dairymen will lie interested to learn that Messrs J. AtcGuigan and R. Wilson, of Arahura, have recently landed from Air C'. Dormers’ Waipiko stud five head of pedigree Jerseys, comprising a hull and four heifers. The quality of the heifers may he ganged from the fact that the average butter fat hacking is 5921bs ; that is, averaging the fat records ot the three nearest dams in each ease. Air AfcGuignn’s three heifers were specially selected to breed to 1 Alfalfa Reputable ” by Waipiko Atasterpiece, Air Raxhv’s champion butter-fat bull, which promises at no distant date to lead the world as a butter iat sire. Alfalfa Reputable was purchased by Messrs McGuigan and Ditely as a calf, and has developed into a magnificent animal. He traces no less than six times to Golden Lad, the most famous and propoteni sire in Jersey history. From the foregoing it will he seen that Air McGuigan lias at hand the means to develop an.outstanding herd of producers. All the heifers are heavily charged with the blood of Kminents Fontaine, sire of no less than 38 daughters with first class certificates of record. It is unnecessary to remind farmers that Eminent’s Fontaine was a direct descendant of Golden Lad. Air AVilson’s bull. AVaipiko Prudent, is by Vivandiere’s Prince, from Vivan diere—lo36lbs fat, and a world champion on twice a day milking. His dam’s record is 6641bs fat, and .the average of bis three nearest dams is 76711>5. Bred in the purple as they are, backed on all sides by heavy butter fat records, it is claimed that this contingent is ttie finest draft of stud cattle that ever came to the Coast.
Alessrs McGuigan and AVilson are to be heartily congratulated on their enterprise, which will be to the advantage of themselves and the district alike.
