PETER B. KANE’S STORY TO-NIGHT.
‘'iiir .Shamrock Handicap/’ which will ho shown at the Princess Theatre to-night, is a thrilling Peter B. Kyno story of a heroic Irish jockey who rides an Irish Jumper to victory on an American track. Leslie Fenton and Janet Gaynor, who played the dramatic role of Anna Burger in “ The Johnstown Flood,” have the leads while the comedy centres about J. Farrell MacDona hi. of ‘‘The Iron llorse” fame. John Ford directed “ The Shamrock Handicap.” Fenton plays the .Irish Jockey. Miss Gay nor plays the Lady Sheila Gaffney, who owns llosaleen Dim, a famous Irish jumper, while MacDonald takes the part of Dennis O’Shea, the trainer. Lady Sheila is the daughter of an impoverished Irish land-owner, and Ross is a jockey who grew up in the Irishman’s service. An American turfman brings Ross to the United States where the boy .sees that Bosaleen is superior to all American jumpers. lie saves his money and sends $2,000 to the Gaffneys so they can come to America. That day, however. he is injured in a race. Chesty Morgan, whom he has displaced in popular favour, pulls on Ross’ saddle just as his mount is poised for the first obstacle. The horse falls on him and the hoy is believed to be permanently crippled. He refuses to notify bis friends in Ireland of the accident, and when they arrive with Rosaleen, Ross, in a wheel chair, meets them at the dock. The Irish arrivals are broke, which gives an opportunity for a lot of humorous situations which continue until the day of the great, race. RosaIcon’s jockey is unable to manage his horse and Boss insists on being strapped in the saddle so that lie can ride her. He goes nut and wins over Morgan and with the purse money undergoes treatment which restores him to health, after which the Irish party return to Gaffney Manor, where Lady Sheila becomes Mrs Ross. Other than Miss Gnynor. MacDonald and Fenton the east includes Georgic Harris, Claire McDowell. Brandon Hurst, Louis Payne. Andy Clark, Thomas Delmar, Willard Louis, and Fly Benolds.
