Total for no wickets 10 Stumps were then drawn. Blunt, who is batting most consistently, and Dempster made an excellent first wicket stand, putting on 125 in one hundred minutes. The former hit eight fours in bis sixty-seven. Another fine partnership followed when the captain joined Page. The latter, whose batting lias been in and out. found his form again and assisted Lowry to add 103 in one hundred minutes. The latter drove powerfully and had reaehoa 100 before be was dismissed by Wensley, who brought off a fine catch in the deep field. There were eleven boundary strokes in his century. James and Daei'O took the total to 310 and at tho tea adjournment, when McGirr and Ollivcr were at the wickets, the score had reached six for 303. James and Ollivcr were very unlucky, both being run out through a misunderstanding with their partners. McGirr left at •109 and then Merritt and Bernau gave the bowlers a lot of trouble, not being parted till they bad added 53 in fortyfive minutes. The whole innings lasted just on six hours and the howling came in for some severe treatment, hut A. E. Gilligan did not bowl.
