EVERYBODYS’ PICTURES
“THE BELLS”—TO-NIGHT
Lionel Barrymore, brother of John and Ethel, the oldest son of the great Alan rice Barrymore, lias recently completed his most pretentious screen offering; “The Bells,’’ which will he the feature attraction to-night at the Princess Theatre. “The Bells,’’ which provided the immortal Sir Henry Trying with his greatest role, was adapted for the screen and directed hv James Young. It was produced by Chadwick Pictures Corporation, sponsors of several of Barrymore’s finest photodramas. This initial Barrymore invasion into the field of true stage classics for his screen vehicle promises a rare treat for the lovers of the host in motion pictures. The role of .Mathias, the riving masterpiece, is a part that cannot he interpreted by anyone hut a rare histrionic genius. Til Barrymore, the Chadwick organisation has such an artist, and, so, it is not amiss to predict that this production will be an outstanding photodramatie achievement. The story of “The Bolls” the Erckmann-Cliatrian drama, as is well-known to everyone, treats with the soul-stirring remorse of a conscience stricken murderer. A fast, moving drama, set in a most colourful locale, it affords motion picture material that is well nigh perfect. Director Young has chosen a east of highly competent players for the supporting roles. Among those in the important parts are Edward Phillips, Lola Todd, Gustav von Seyfcrtitz, Otto Ecdorer, Boris Karloff. Ered Warren, Caroline Frances Cooke, Lorimer Johnston and Laura Lavarine. Cliff Saumc, Earle Silboy, L. William O’C'onnol and Perry Harris are responsible respectively for the art direction, the technical direction, the photography and special lighting effects. Supporting this hig special is the latest in Topicals and a side-splitting comedy. On Tuesday a, story by Bex Bench, “Recoil’’ and starring Malden Hamilton and Betty Blythe.
