Abraham AYally Mohammed Salaam n, who is described as an Indian Herb Atah, was to-day fined ten pounds on each of two charges of obtaining money by falsely representing himself to be a person capable of diagnosing and curing ailments, and as skilled in the treatment of diseases. On four other charges he was ordered to come up for sentence within twelve months.

The Magistrate (Mi McKean) said: “The only conclusion I can come to. after hearing the evidence, is that the defendant did, by his words and conduct, represent himself to be a person capable of diagnosing and curing ailments, and skilled in the treatment of diseases. That representation "as a mere pretence, and was false, I am satisfied, after hearing the defendant’s denial of the statements of the principal witnesses for the prosecution, that he had no real belief in the statements made to these witnesses as to the state of their health." In asking for leniency. Mr Schramm, who appeared for Salaman, pointed out that none of the 6000 persons treated by Salaman had come forward to say that they had been defrauded bv him., Salaman’x expenses had been heavy, and £3009 worth of his stock had been in the possession of the police for some time.
