On resuming the wicket was almost perfect, yet the home side treated the bowling with the greatest respect. MeGirr and Henderson immediately found a. length and Stevens soon paid the penalty of flicking one from the latter into the slips. Hearne started oil- by bitting the left hander briskly for a few overs, and then was also caught oil bun in the slips. Allen and Hendren however effected a stand j and were especially severe on Cunningham who was howling erratically. Merritt had a turn with the ball but both men jumped out and got him frequently to the boiindniy. When Cunningham went on lie bowled erratically and titty were added in forty minutes. Merritt nd MeGirr were tried and slowed down the scoring till Allen three times in one over jumped out and sent the former to the boundary. Henderson was brought oil again and though his deliveries were more patchy this time he broke a dangerous partnership by getting Allen caught at cover point I for 34.
xt lunch the total wits 4 for Ith. Ilendren was caught at the wickets immediately on resuming and alter him Grav Wiis the only one who could make any headway against the howling. He and Haig added 40 in forty minutes but McGirr and Merritt bowled. with success, and slowed the scoring down and disposed ol the last four wickets rapidly, the total reaching 290.
