Ihe funeral of the late Mr Robert Goodie, of Hampden Street, took place yesterday afternoon ami the very large gathering that assembled for the occasion testified to the high esteem in which the deceased was held by the community. The Rev. J. W. Hayward conducted the service at the residence and the graveside. A large number of flora! tributes were received from sorrowing friends.
An accident occurred to Mr T. Newman on Saturday afternoon at his farm at llrightwater. While he was driving a draught foal, the animal lashed out. striking Mr Newman’s right arm, breaking a small hone in two places. Mr Newman was. subsequently removed to a private hospital at Richmond, where a slight operation was found to he necessary.

Official advice lias been received in Wellington that Dr Franklin Kidd, Director of the Cambridge low temperature research station, would arrive in New Zealand about the middle of August next. The object of Dr Kidd’s visit is an investigation of cold storage problems in connei lion with the fruit industry, and during the course of his lour of the Dominion he will visit the main fruit districts and fruit-shipping centres.
