Science is every day playing a more important, part in our lives, aiul it is interesting to note that the primary producers are evincing a keen interest in agricultural research. The executive of the.Farmers’ Union has complained that research is being retarded h.v the delay in establishing an agricultural college The executive of the Dannevirke A. and P. Association lias urged upon the trustees of a bequest the desirability of devoting a portion of revenue to researches in sheep farming. These two instances sTTow the very real interest that the farmer is taking in the scientific aspect of liis work. The need for research and the linos it- should follow have been set forth by the Imperial Economic Committee in its valuable report on the dairying industry of the Empire. Tt has classified the work under the following heads:—-Methods of improved production ; food values, including vitimines; utilisation of milk residues; refrigeration ; economic research. Perhaps all of these may not he capable of treatment in this Dominion; hut certainly tlie first one, improved production. .should find this an ideal country for such research. Each of the subjects on the list is of vital importance, and the Imperial Committee recommending that there should he research stations ■ throughout- the Empire, conceived also the idea of complete co-operation, so that the results should he available for all.
