Junior A. team v. Ivanieri at 2 o’clock : —Davidson, Gardyne, Hughes, Muir, Evans, Gay, Tainui, McDonald, Butland, Davidson, Breeze, Staines, Glover, Dale and Stevenson. Einerg: Gooch and Stopforth.
Junior B. v. Ivokatahi at Kokatahi: Palmer, King, Evans, Kelly, Huxford, Dowling, Schroder, Herring, Bell, P. Evans, Nestor, Perham, Grant, White. Einerg: Forwards, Griffon and "Webb; backs, Taylor, Jones and Keller.
Tho Ivanieri senior team to play Magpies at Greymouth on Saturday are : —Moynihan, Schist, McKenzie, .Mclntosh, Stopforth A., Fleming C., Phaflert C., Hagar, McCleary, Stopforth C., Tainui, Pfaldcrt C., AVhiley, Steel, Griffiths, Thomas. The above are requested to be at the Hokitika station at 12.30 o’clock sharp.
Ivanieri Juniors to play Excelsiors at 2 o’clock:—Howat, Fleming W., Greaney, Fleming S., Graybateh, Williams, Pliaflert 0., Rooney, Hutchison L., George, Hutchison W., Wilson, White, Flucti, Junevitch. Campbell, Leslie, Tainui, Davidson.
N.Z. ’VARSITY TEAM. MANLY BEATEN BY 15 POINTS. [Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.] SYDNEY, May 18. The New Zealand University team to-day played against Manly in their first game. The team was: Lindsay, Loveridge, Brandovitcli, Freeman, Pacey, Ross, Love, Childs, Keegan, Smith, Alley, O’Regan, Forks, Linton, and Moretc (wing). The weather was ideal and the ground was in good order. The first spell was evenly contested. A quarter of an hour after the kick off, the Blacks were penalised, and Thorn was successful with tlie kick. Lindsay at full-back played surely, but made one bad miss early in flic game, and nearly let Manly through. Paecy and Brandovitcli showed up with good runs, but the best player on the field was Love, who was always on tlie ball, and played a great game. There were two New Zealand scores in the first half. Both were initiated by Moretc. On the first occasion lie gor, away on his own, but was dragged down just across the line. O’Regan converted the try. The next try was Manly’s and was due to Maniniil. Manly’s winger, who got away and, when hauled down, he transferred the ball to Thorn, who scored and converted.
From the kick-off. Morete marked. Linton followed up Morete’s kick very quickly and be secured the ball, and dashed over. o’Regan was again successful with the kick, thus leaving the score at half-time K) to S ill favour of flic New Zealanders. Twenty minutes after the commencement of the second spell. Love secured the ball from the serum, and set liis backs in motion. After the ball had passed through several hands, Brandonvitch found ail opening, through which lie scored. O’Regnii again added tho major points.
A couple of fine passing rushes by the Manly half, dropped the hall inside liis own half. The ball was kicked on to Linton, who dashed through and scored. O’Began failed to convert.
Give and take play followed. Manly then pressed hard, but good play by Lindsay saved New Zealand. The New Zealand forwards were working hard, all doing their fair share. A free kick almost in front of tiie Manly goal enabled O’Regan to kick another goal.
Lore was again prominent behind the scrum, Moretc was penalised for the way lie put the ball into the scrum and Thorn kicked an easy goal. Manly again got away. Freeman kicked the ball dead. New Zealand returned to the attack, and from a forward rush, Childs scored under the posts, and O Began converted. The game then ended. New Zealand 20 Manly
