[Australia <fc N.Z. Cable Association.] THE TRUNK MYSTERY. (Received this day at 11 0 a.m.) LONDON. May IS. Scotland Yard’s inquiries into the Ronnti mystery covered an extraordinwide range upon which the best detectives are engaged, yet it is no nearer the identification of the murderer than on the day the trunk was discovered. Many preconceived ideas were upset, Sir Spilsburv advanced an unexpected theory at the police conference to the effect that Eonati was not murdered hut killed by a fall down stairs in which the head injuries were inflicted. Another theory is that after falling she lay face downwards on a mat, causing suffocation. Tn suppoit of this it is assumed the fall occurred in the house of a criminal who, fearing blame, therefore dismembered the body and placed it in a trunk. It does not necessarily follow that this theory is accepted by the police, but in view of Spilsbury’s eminence they are now prosecuting inquiries in this direction,
