THE BIG RAID

(Australian Press Association & Sun.)

LONDON, May 16

Following police evacuation of the premises of the Russian Trade Delegation and the Arcos Company last night. M. Sorokin, Acting Chairman of the Arcos Company, sent a letter to the Home Secretary, asking the following questions: Firstly, what were the allegations upon which the extraordinary action was taken? Secondly, what things have been removed from the building ? Thirdly, what complaints, if anv, can you make against lis as ihe result of your inspection of the premises and the papers? LONDON. May 16.

Thus far the public is as much in the dark on the points of AT. Sorokin’s queries to the Home Secretary as is the Arcos Company.

It is generally agreed that Sir Mm. Joynson-Hieks (the Home Secretary), in his statement in the House of Commons on the raid was not elucidative regarding the papers, and it is hoped that more information will he given on Thursday.

The Daily Express states :—ln' regard to the raid on the Arcos premises, all that is certain is that many circumstantial reports, purporting to reveal sensational discoveries, are unfounded.

The paper understands, frony a high authority, that the police have not found anything which could be described as a complete list of “Red” agents, nor have the police discovered any evidence of sums of money being paid to British agitators by Moscow during the General Strike.

The paper also says, there was reported the discovery of bank notes, passports and documents concerning the visit to England of the French President. M. Doumergue, and this also is declared to be completely inaccurate.

MOSCOW. May 17

It is reported that the Soviet is sending a Note to Britain to-day on the subject of the Arcos Company and Trade Delegation raid.

LONDON, May 16. It is expected that the Arcos Company will resume business to-day.
