STOLEN PEARLS. NICE, March IG. Nearly £5,000 worth of jewels and furs were stolen from a villa at Cannes occupied by Air and Mrs l’rederick-Lcveson-Gower, yesterday. The police believe that the thefts were carried out by a maid who was recently engaged. During dinner she is alleged to have entered her mistress’ bedroom, and by means of false keys Co have opened drawers and ward-robes, and made a clean sweep of all the valuables she could find. It was 9 o’cloex when Airs LevesonGover, who had gone to her room to fetch a wrap, found that the theft had been committed. The stolen jewels include a pearl and diamond necklace, rings and* several diamond bracelets. A valuable fur cloak is also missing. When the police were informed they found that the maid had disappeared. It is thought that she escaped in a motor-car which was waiting in tho neighbourhood.
