The Secretary will bo in attendance also lor the purpose of taking late entries. Listeners-in to the wireless at 1.30 this afternoon heard the Duke of Yoik speaking at the opening of the federal Parliament to-day at Canberra. The speech was followed by a fanfare of trumpets proclaiming the formal opening of the Parliament in the newlvi founded city, which as one speaker . said, was “ not built by war and conquest but by the peaceful arts of industry and commerce.” The opening I ceremony was broadcasted from Can- ' berra through 2F.C\ Sydney. Yester--1 day forenoon the church service at Canberra was heard locally over the

wireless, and in the evening from the hotel lounge at Canberra, "Rt. Hon. "W . H. Hughes, ex-Federal Prime Minister, broadcasted an address which could be heard plainly here despite the prevalence of static. The announcer last evening stated 10.000 motor ears had arrived at Canberra for the festival proceedings. Owing to very wet and boisterous weather on Friday the roads to Canberra, were in bad order.
