(Australian Press Association & Sun.)
ILL-FEELING AT CONFERENCE (Received this day at 10.25 a.m.) GENEVA. May 4.
Although prior to the opening of the Economic Conference, there appeared perfect unanimity between the European nations on many points of discussion and procedure, there now appears to be a slight rift, and efforts are being made to prevent France obtaining tile controlling influence on the deliberations and decisions of the Conference. There is much discussion in the lobbies on M. Lout-lieur’s attitude. H will he remembered that the Conference is being held at bis suggestion, made last Assembly. It is understood he desired the appointment as Rap-portner-Cleneral of the Conference, tie approached President Theunis to-da.v with the request, and backed up bis claim by a threat to withdraw from the Conference. According to stories ill official circles, President Theunis indicated M, Louelienr’s appointment would be unacceptable, and he would accept his resignation. Intermediaries however, put the matter light, saying that Loucheur will he nominated as Vice-President. The matter lias, however, left a rather strained feeling.
