[Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.] WHEAT CONFER ENCE. (Received this day at 9.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, May 4. A Kansas City message states preparations are proceeding for the opening to-morrow of one of the most important grain gatherings in the history of wheat marketing, with representatives of Canada and Australia on hand to discuss the world needs far grain. It is stated no world wide wheat pool is contemplated, hut it is planned to organise a unit whereby the interests of all may be bettered. It is not known definitely what form cooperation will take, but several plans will be discussed during the three days’ session.
Three central selling or{j;anisations oi United States have arranged a meeting, preceding the opening conference, to discuss plans for forming co-opera-tive organisation extending throughout tho nation. This meeting will he attended by delegates from nine principal wheat growing states. King interviewed, expressed amazement at the backwardness of American farming and banking methods. He said: “At the long distance from which we are forced to judge, we consider it is remarkable you carried on with the present hanking system as long as you have.’’ Referring to the Conference ho said lie believed it would be a mutual understanding that would eventually produce a working agreement for world co-operation. The meeting was essentially to exchange ideas and ideals. They were not going to launch an idea ns a mere bubble. If launched it would be a practical plan and must have a world organisation. They were quite conscious of the difficulties and had figured out ways to meet them which in bis belief wen? practicable. VANCOUVER, May 1. The Niagara, lias sailed.
