CANBERRA

SCENE OF BUSTLE. (Australian Press Association Sun.) SYDNEY, May 3. Canberra, the Federal capital, has for many weeks past been a scene ol bustle in the putting of the finishing touches on the preparations for the

opening ceremony on Monday next. Tiie embryo city will enter on the status of the Federal capital when Parliament is opened and already the Speaker of the House (Sir L. Groom) and a large number of officers of the Federal Public Seme are in residence.

Troops and police of all the States of the Commonwealth are also encamped at Canberra. There have been soverl rehearsal parades of every arm in

the Commonwealth Defence Forces, in order to avoid any hitch when they are inspected by the Royal visitors. The site of an Anglican Cathedral is now marked by a cross twenty leet high, which will he dedicated on Sunday and on Monday, the .Most. Rev. Archdeacon Cattaileo, the Apostolic Delegate to Australia, will celebrate Muss the Roman Catholic Cathedral site at Canberra. The accommodation in the surrounding districts is already fully taken up, and a large number of visitors will he compelled to live under canvas. The Government is providing tents, and all facilities at nominal rentals. It is estimated that two million people will listen in to the wireless broadcast report of the ceremonies on Monday at Canberra.
