It is interesting to learn in respect to an allied subject, tliat Sir James Allen lias accepted the Presidency of the New Zealand Branch of the Institute of Pacific Relations. Since his return to the Dominion, the ex-High Commissioner has heen lecturing on Imperial questions in various parts c New Zealand, and doubtless in order to he near the centre of things, he has determined to lire in Wellington, instead of Dunedin, his former home. The Institute of Pacific Relations which was inaugurated at a conference held at Honolulu in the middle of last year, was attended by representatives of almost all the countries bordering on the Pacific Ocean, and hv representatives of the Pacific Islands. The object of the Institute is to consider contacts and conflicts, and to promote understanding and co-operation amongst the people living round the Pacific, by means of study groups and a dispassionate presentation of their individual points of view on subjects affecting the whole of them. The vice-presi-dents of the New Zealand branch are Sir George Eliot. Sir Maui Pomnre (member of the Government representing the Maori race), and the Hon j, b. Gov, M.I/.C. Gr Guy H.
Seholcfield lias been elected honorary secretary in place of Professor ■l■ 13. Condiiffe, who has left for Honolulu to take up the position of research director for the Institute. The next international conference of the Institute will he held a Honolulu front July loth to July 28th. In the meantime, members are being enrolled and study groups formed ill New Zealand—one at each of the four chief centres. Although this work is not likely to absorb all Sir James Allen's energies, it will doubtless he of groat interest to him, and lie is sure to attend the next conference in Honolulu.
