INSECT SAVES HATES. TONDOX. February 2F. A tiny blue insect, the springtnii, is saving t!ic ratepayers of Wombwell, Yorkshire, hundreds ot pounds a year. Although it is so small that one can hardly see it with a microscope, it is doing work which could only be aecompl,siied by many men and the expenditure of much money—that of keeping clear the filters of the beds at ttie Wombwell sewage works. If it were not for the activities of the insects the filters would Ivecome choked, and would have to lie cleaned —a lengthy and costly undertaking. The springtnii makes itself additionally useful liy Idling fly larvae. To transport them clinkers, in which the insects live, are placed in large tins. Springtnii is the common name of a group of small insects so named from the presence of a pair of tail-like appendages at the end of the abdomen which act as a spring,
