LATE LOCALS
Messrs M. Houston and Co. notify the sale by auction on Wednesday next at 2 p.m. on the premises of Air J. Lock. Revell Street, the whole of his voidable furniture and effects. Particulars appear in another column. The official scrutiny of the rolls used at yesterday’s local polls is taking place this afternoon. Afterwards there will he a recount of the votes polled, and the votes by declaration will he added where it is found the voter had the right to vote.
On the question of voting by declaration. Mr T. F. Martin, counsel for the New Zealand .Municipal Association has given his opinion that legally voting by declaration can he done only where the following conditions exist: (a) The voter must have had the necessary qualifications; (h) the Fown Clerk or. his assistants must have had knowledge of the existence of the qualifications; and (c*) the voter s name mqst have been omitted from the roll by inadvertence.
