RACING.

KUMAR A RACKS. The weather proved unfavourable for the Easter .Monday fixture of the above Club yesterday, but despite that untoward circumstance, the meeting passed oil’ on the whole very successfully. The forenoon though not overpromising was not menacing enough lo stop the “sports,” who gathered in the usual force, motor ears conveying verv large numbers. As a matter ol fact the gate receipts were very little below those ot last year when line weather prevailed. Rain tell lor the second race, and after that there were heaty showers at intervals which somewhat delayed the proceedings, hut the last race was not more than twenty minutes late, a very good performance reflecting credit on the officials, all ol whom worked well at their several posts. As a result of the rain the course was very heavy, and the grounds generally were badly cut up. lint the large concourse of people made flic best of it. and speculation was g tod considering the racing conditions. Ihe holds were fair, and the local owners secured the major part ol the stakes. Mr Jc(fries won two stakes and .Messrs M. Keenan and AY. Stewart also sent out winners. The tutalisator turnover for the day was £(>sl2 against i£Bl So a year ago. On the day s racing yesterday the speculation must be considered a very good return. During the year the Club has effected several improvements, including an improved (iitram-e. additional stall accommodation, enlarged tea rooms, new (cueing and other works involving an expenditure of some £-)(!(). The meeting while not being the financial success of last year will not lie a loss, so that me Club comes out of the day fairly well in all the circumstances. Yesterday was the first wet day the Cub has experienced for seven years. hollowing Wharfeifale's decisive win of the principal event, the President (Mr •! ■ Gilbert) presented Mr Jeffries with a group of nuggets of Kuinara gold. Ii was a very attractive collection, ami Mr ftilbei t heartily congratulated Mr Jeffries on his success. Mr Jeffries made a spirited reply, expressing sympathy with the Club in encountering such had weather, but wishing the Clnh brighter fortune in the luture.
