CREATING A WINTER SEASON FOR. THE SO INTI. The New Zealand Railway Department is setting out to create a winter season for South Westland. The effort is well overdue for the reason that the winter period of the year is the most invigorating time to travel south. To attract interest and attention the Railway Department has issued a striking booklet in color, with some dozen views of Westland ranging from Lake Kattieri and the South road to the glories of the Franz .Josef Glacier. A brief letterpress describes Hie south trip, making Christchurch the starting paint. The Department has arrfanged a combined rail and motor trip-from the point of commencement of the journey front any part, in New Zealand to Wailto Glacier and back. A number of specimen trips are given with the fares in each instance from Wlinngnroi in the north to Bluff in the smith. A useful time-table, is supplied also for the guidance of holiday makers mapping out their trips. The cheap fares will be issued from the 2nd. May to the 31st. October, and tickets be available for return up to two months, but not later than 30th. November. The enterprise of the Department is to be welcomed and no doubt will be appreciated by ttianv hundreds who will be making the trip to the glacier region. Tlio Bailway Department has bad some 15.000 booklets printed and these are to lie distributed widely. Jt is evident every effort is being'made by tlio Deiiartmeni is to give tlio facilities afforded full publicity. Folk here should write to their friends in other parts of New Zealand, and so enable as many as possible to take advantage of the tempting offer. All particulars may bo had at the railway stations where tickets may he purchased. South Westland will receive a special advertisement by the enterprise of the Railway Department which should result in profit all round.
