The Duke and Duchess arrived from Queensland this morning and proceeded direct to the Royal Agricultural Show where tlu-y spent several hours. In the afternoon they wil hoard the Renown and sail for Hobart. According to figures compiled by the Commonwealth statistician population of Australian on thirty-first of December last was 6.110.514, an increase of 118.430 during the year. Of the in crease, the excess of births over deaths was 76.210; excess of arrivals over de-
partures 42,220. New South AA’ales is the most populous State with 2,347,781 inhabitants. The population of Tasmania decreased by 2.278. The other States all showed substantial increases. SYDNEY TRAGEDY. SYDNEY, April 15. After battering his wife to death with an axe in ” - bedroom at their home at AHlers’ Point yesterday, Robert Jackson, aged 45, committed suicide, cutting his throat. Jealousy is believed to have l>een the motive for the crime.
