UNUSUAL INCIDENT PAMIATUA, April 12. An unusual incident occurred at the Council meeting last evening. A labour deputation urged the filing of tne “New Zealand Worker ” in the public library. Mr Tiunov (chairman of the Library Committee) explained that he would agreed that the paper be placed on the table provided it was supplied free of charge. For some time previously it bad been resolved not to allow the journal to be filed, because it was considered seditious. Mr Tinney said if C. Gough (Labour Secretary) and member of the deputation proposed to address the Council he should be restrained from doing so on account of the disgusting terms in which he alleged he couched a letter written to the Council some time ago. So much so, that the Mayor refused to bring it before the Council, and tore it up. Mr Tinney’s motion to restrain Cough from addressing the meeting was supported by the Mayor, and carried unanimously. Tn assurance was subsequently given bv the Labour candidate S. 0. Wallis). also one of flie deputation, at the forthcoming elections that the “New Zealand Worker.” described hy him, as the now official Opposition journal, would be placed on the library table of the borough.
