NEW YORK, April 2. “New York Times” Winnipeg correspondent states the .Saskatchewan wheat pool, a big factor in co-operative grain marketing in Canada, is having great difficulty In persuading its members to to renew grain marketing contracts which were formulated by Sapiro. I,ess than fifty per cent of members are renewing despite an army of field service men employed by the pool. This is due to the fact that a producer selling at the open market has been obtaining hotter price for his grain than the pool, the farmer in some cases getting sixty cents per bushel more. Eleven million acres of Saskatchewan wheat is now in the pool. Only live million acres have renewed. Euless another 2.606.0(1! ) acres enter by next autumn the pool will he compelled to release all members from contracts and cease operations. 'The poo! managers when seeding began expected to obtain 85 per cent of the acreage. The failure is considered a triumph of the grain exchange marketing system. The decision has already been reached in Saskatchewan to discontinue operations of coarse grain pool, namely oats, barley, rye and flax. M A YOR ALTY E LECTION. NEW YORK, April 3. A Chicago message says following an attendance of the primary contest by violence (cabled on March 22nd) this city after the most bitterly contested municipal campaign in its history, has appealed to Governor Small, of Illinois. to he prepared to call troops out on Tuesday, when the Mayoralty election should interest centres around. The contest between William Thompson (Republican) and William Dewer (Democrat) and the present mayoralty is incumbent with charges that 10,000 negroes will he used to foment race riots during the elections and have caused officials to take extraordinary precautions. One hundred and five police riflo squads in automobiles will tour the streets, wliii'e other police cars carrying, thirty-five machines guns will protect polling places.
