DAIRY CONTROL BOARDS

The Dairy Control Hoard, at its meeting to-day, decided in relation to price-fixing, that the present is not an opportune time for the profitable discussion of the control question. The Hoard, by re.soi'utiou, disagreed with tile statement to the effect that the Hoard was directly responsible for a heavy loss to the industry, and the Hoard, by resolution, held that the compulsory provisions in the Act are absolutely necessary for the effective organisation and protection of the industry. Mr Timpany moved the motion, ot which he had given notice, viz. That compulsory control he suspended, and made absolute at the end of the season; and that the Board reorganise on the lines of the Meat Control Board and the Australian Dairy Control Board. Air Timpany’s motion was defeated, after a brief discussion, by seven votes to one. The financial position was shown to he quite sound, as between the realisation and of advances. DEPUTATION TO BOARD. WELLINGTON, March 30. A deputation of lour waited on tho Dairy Control Board to-day. and placed the resolutions passed at yesterday’s conference of producers at Palmerston North before the members. The delegates at the Conference represented 112 factories, with an output of twenty-four thousand tons of butter and twenty-two thousand tons of cheese. The Conference passed a resolution that a Dairy Produce Board was necessary to secure adequate organisation and arrangement of shipment's and freights, and to establisii markets, etc.
The deputation said the feeling at the Conference was that all did'ereilces of opinion regarding the Board s present marketing policy should he waived so lU e as this season’s produce was concerned, so that the Board might have a united industry behind at tho pre-ent critical period. It was eomened by the Karnieis’ Union to discuss various aspects ol dairy control. Mr J. J. Brechin c Puhiatiia) amt Mr T. Moss CEketalmua) spoke in support of the Board’s control policy. They asked for a continuance ol support.
The following rosonilions were carried unanimously: Ilf That this meeting of representatives ol the AAairarapa producers and business men considers that the time has arrived when the’ Dairy I’rotluee Control Board should convene a special meeting ot representatives of the whole of the dairy producers ot the Dominion, to discuss the present position ol dairy produce, with a view to arriving at a policy for the majority of the producers.

BOA 11D Cl 1A Hi M AX. AVRBUXOTOX. March 3ft. AIV Grounds made the lollowing statement to-day: 1 wish to draw attention to the extraordinary statement made by Mr X.aslt at the meeting at PaiVnerston. in which he said that Parliament had nothing to do with exemptions under the Dairy Control Act. Xo exemptions have been made except those specifically provided for in the legislation, and only last week the |jn:ird was engaged in the Appeal Court testing the validity of a proposed extension of these exemptions claimed by the opposition interests, il Parliament was not responsible for the exemptions under legislation, who was? So far as information concerning exemptions is concerned, a tull list o. tho'-o companies and the tonnage affected, was published in the Board’s official organ, and thus lias been fully available to all producers.
T> \ IBV COXTBOL BOARD. AVKLI.TXGTOX. March 31. After the withdrawal of the deputation of producers who convoyed resolutions passed by the Palmerston Xortli conference, the Dairy Producer-. Control Board adopted a resolution of appreciation of the general support given the Board in the confetc-nee s first resolution, hut disagreeing with the statement in the second resolution that the Board were responsible lor the heavy loss to industry. The Board decided to inform the deputation that- a full meeting of the Board would be held in .Tune after the return of members of the T oiidon Agency, to consider the Board > future ! °Mr Timpanv then moved accordance with notice:—“Tlmt compulsory control be suspended and made absolute .. the end of the season and that the Board reorganise on the lines of 'he i Meat Control- Board and Australian Control Board." This was rejected after a formal discussion by si.ten votes to one. Air Hunt not voting in view of the Board’s reconstruction police at the -Tune meeting.
