Melbourne Club was continued to-day in ideal weather, Melbourne topping the New Zealand first innings score of .‘317 by making 191 for 9 wickets. Warwick Armstrong was an absentee. Centuries were made by 1L A. Onyons (180) and by V. S. Hansford (110), H. f. Saiulford being the next highest scorer with 50. The second wickets partnership between Rausford and Onyoiis realised 235 runs, and a fourth-wicket partnership between Onyons and Sandford 111) runs. The veteran. Mr D. McKenzie, umpired in place of Mr P. R. Wadcly, who left the field oil Friday.
Although of irregular length, Merritt’s bowling, and Rlunt’s also, gave the batsmen trouble. Melbourne took 310 minutes to compile their 191 runs, Oriyons and Rausford reaching their centuries within a lew minutes of each other. SNOBS SNUBBED. LONDON, March 20. The snobbery prevailing in certain unnamed social clubs in India lias aroused the indignation of the visiting M.C.C. team, who have just returned from their tour. The captain said that the Viceroy had dined the whole team, and had invited three of the amateurs and three of the professionals to stay at Government House. The State Governors and the native princes also had treated the professionals of the team similarly, hut certain of the social clubs had offered the amateurs their honorary membership, while ignoring the professionals. Afr Gilligan said that he was determined not to tolerate such social distinctions. If the team were good enough to meet their opponents oil the cricket field, then the same must he true in the social sphere. Consequently he took a firm lino when tho professionals were slighted.
