An inquest was held on Saturday morning into the death of William Bari ass, aged 58 years, married, who was found lying on the floor of the kitchen at his home, with a rubber tube from a gas jet in his mouth. The gas was turned on.
The evidence was that Badass had been depressed owing to ill health, which had necessitated his giving up his employment, as a plumber. The Coroner (..Air ]',a-wr,v, S.M.) found that Badass had committed suicide by gas poisoning, while in a state of mental depression.
SEAAIAN FALLS OVERBOARD. AUCKLAND, Alarch 21. While the steamer Waite mat a was hound from San Erantisco to Auckland, a seaman named Edward Lowe, aged 29, fell overboard while unshipping the port light. A boat was lowered, but Lowe disappeared before help reached him, and was drowned. BAD AVEATHER. DUNEDIN, Alarch 21. One of the stormiest days since last winter was experienced in Dunedin today. A cold, south-westerly wind blew all day, bringing heavy driving rain. The surrounding hill's are now capped with snow. CAR THIEVES ACTIVE. WELLINGTON. March 21.
“ Yours is the sixth car stolen today,” R. M. Nimmo was informed by the police, in making known a tfteft of his car in front of the Town Hall on Saturday night. Nimmo, when interviewed, expressed the opinion that thieving of motor cars was so greatly on the increase in. Wellington that it was time drastic action was takejn. Perhaps the punishment meted out to culprits was insufficient to deter them.
