Melbourne Cricket Club’s team, opened to-day in perfect weather. The wicket and outfield were in excellent order. New Zealand had the luck of the toss, but after a promising beginning. tin* innings closed for the poor total of 190.

Rage, on bis first appearance in a New Zealand side, made top score of 67. He was 92 minutes at the wickets, bitting six fours. Dacre was the only other batsman to make a stand.
