[by TELEGRAPH PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] TRENTHAM, March 1?. Rain fell (luring the night., but cleared away before eight o’clock tliis morning, when the men paraded to begin shooting in service series. Clouds overhung the range till mid-forenoon, then tho sun came through in litlul gleams 'and occasional puffs of wind upset the iimv'kmcn’s calculations. ‘When tho final entries were checked it was found that the total was 352 or ton loss than last year. Tho Royal visit in tho South accounted for a few who otherwise would have been certain competitors and other causes prevented the attendance of still more habitues of Trentham and some who in local ,habit have been showing good promise. The Renown team managed at the last moment to get leave and come out for the service matches and in initial one their team put on an average which, if maintained will take some heating.
Before a. commencement was made with the shooting Colonel Hughes, briefly addressed tho competitors extending a cordial welcome to all especially new comers to whom ho gave a few "words of friendly advice against the danger of reposing too much trust in either their fellow competitors (he spoke with knowledge on this point as an old shooting man himself), or i.n the apparent conditions on the ran "os. Belli riflemen and Trentham were full of tricks which might easily prove pitfalls for tho innocent, hut they could provide a great fund oi experience for future years. Shooting then began with rapid lire match in service (A) series. TRENTHAM, March 17.
Tho result of the Champion Service Teams match (teams of five, counting scores in match 1 to 4) was:—l6os and Logan Campbell Shield— Wellington Suburbs, N. 1 (Goodall 122, Motham 98. Hunt 118, Kidd 132, Hester 132) (302; 100s —Ashburton -581; 60s—Karon' No. 1. 573; 40s each —Wanganui A. 549, Petone A. 538. Hie Renown came next with 537. There were 29 entries.
The Islington Cup, for the host team aggregate in match No. 3, was non by Knrori No. 1, with a- score of 140. Petone A were runners np with 140. Napier No. 1 were third with 135. The Service Championship (individual aggregate in matches 1 to 4), resulted : 200 s and Ross Carbine Belt, Simmons Cup and Gold Medal—F. .Tenno (Gisborne) 1765: 120 s and silver medal W. N. Masefield (Blenheim) 163; 80s and bronze medal—G. V. Coreiilius (Renown) 155; 40s each—C. Kibblewhite (Waihate) 155; I>. Kien (Ashburton) 150; C. Moss (Fiwi) 150. Service Shooting Match (rapid 300 yards) was won by Pring (Auckland) with a score of 45 out of 50, taking 80. .Teuno and Frazer (Kaitangata) each scored 40, taking 50s. , Match 2 (snap shooting at 300 yards) was won by Cornelius of H.M.S. Renown, with 80, out of 100, taking 80s; Fell- (Ashburton) 80 took 60s; Moss (Dunedin) 77. taking 40s. Match 3 (file competition, 200 yards) was tied for by Puschl (Christchurch). Ching (Karori), Jeune (Gisborne), .Jones (Linton), Kidcl (Wellington) and Sutherland (Tuhirnngi) with 45 out of 50. taking 46s Sd. Match 4 (running man, 200 yards) was won by Facer (Reserve) with 25 out of 30. Hepburn (Hamilton). Puschl Christchurch) and Hood (Opaki) tying for next with 22. taking 40s each. The Individual Service Championship was won by Jeune (Gisborne) 175. Masterfield (Blenheim) was runner-up with 163. Jeune takes the Ross Carbine Belt. Simmonds Cup and Gold Medal.
